privacy policy
last updated 25 july 2026
At facelock, we prioritize your privacy and the protection of your data. We safeguard personal and non-personal information using global data-protection standards, including the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
This policy applies to the facelock website and the macOS and Windows applications and explains how the services provided by facelock use and protect your information.
1. Notice
Whenever we collect information that could be used to personally identify you, we will explicitly ask for your permission to use it. This keeps you informed and in control when we request account details, cookies, or other personal data.
2. Your consent
You can grant or withhold permission for us to process your information. Declining optional data, such as marketing cookies, does not affect access to the core service. If information is essential to a feature, we will clearly identify it before asking for your consent.
By accepting this policy and supplying personal information, you consent to the processing described here.
3. Usage
facelock is an app-locker: you choose an app, and facelock asks your operating system's built-in Face ID (on Mac) or Windows Hello (on Windows) to confirm it's you before that app opens.
We never capture, store, or transmit your face. Face recognition happens entirely on your device through the OS's own Face ID or Windows Hello system, and facelock never sees, saves, or uploads any biometric data. facelock does not continuously watch your screen.
We collect account information, such as the name and email from the Google account you sign in with, purchase records processed through our payment provider Stripe, and your local app-lock settings, such as which apps are locked and your optional unlock schedule. We do not sell your data.
Data retained on our servers is protected with industry-standard security practices and kept only as long as needed to provide the service or comply with law.
4. Retention of information
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide facelock. When you delete your account or make a verified deletion request, personally identifiable information is deleted within 14 days, unless a longer period is legally required.
5. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of processing for, or portability of your personally identifiable information. You may also object to direct-marketing processing at any time.
6. Opting out
Optional services such as newsletters and customer-satisfaction surveys can be declined at any time. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
7. Security of your information
We use layered security measures, including TLS for connections between your device and our servers and established email-authentication standards such as DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will provide at least two weeks’ notice before the change takes effect so you can review it or withdraw consent.
